Spades Learn to Play

The objective of Spades is to estimate the number of tricks you will take in a round, then win exactly that number of tricks. Points are scored based on the number of tricks you win (or subtracted, based on the number of tricks you don’t win), and a big bonus awaits if you successfully manage to defend a bid of “nil.” Let’s go!

1.
Start a round by choosing whether to view your cards or bid a “blind nil” (beginners should select to view cards). Based on your cards, you must “bid” the number of tricks you believe you can take, or bid “nil” if you think you won’t take any.

2.
Play moves clockwise. Choose a card from your hand that matches the suit of the first card played in the current trick, or, if you don’t have a card of that suit, choose any card you like.

3.
The highest card in the suit that was led, or the highest spade, wins the trick. Spades are the trump suit, and are worth more than any other suit. Try to win the number of tricks you bid!
