Moxie’s Pick of the Week: Text Twist
Okay, so for the past two weeks, my favorites have been recent, download games. Not so today! About once a month or so, I end up getting obsessed all over again with one of my favorite web-based games, and that’s Text Twist. Since I’ve been playing it pretty much non-stop every evening for the past five days, it’s a no-brainer that I’m choosing it for this week’s pick. | |
| If you haven’t tried Text Twist before, it’s a jumbled-word game with a twist, literally. The idea is to make as many words as possible out of a group of letters. The neat part is that you can see from the start exactly how many words are possible, for each number of letters, so it’s just a matter of figuring out what they all are! And a handy “TWIST” button re-scrambles the letters, so hopefully you can spot another combination or two before the timer runs out. |

| So why do I love it so much? Because it makes me feel smart. There’s that one moment when you suddenly figure out the one word that uses every single letter on the board, and it’s a total rush. There’s also the fact that, when a round ends, the game fills in all the words that you didn’t manage to find, and every so often, I learn a new word that way. And of course, with each round taking less than three minutes, there’s always time to play. Basically, if you love words, you’ll love Text Twist!
Tips and Tricks | |
| · Use your keyboard to type whole words instead of clicking on the individual letters; it’s so much faster! | |
| · Whenever you make a word, look at the remaining letters to see if it can be expanded. For instance, WAVE can easily become WAVES, WAVED, WAVER, or WEAVE if you have the right leftover letters! | |
| · If you happen to see a short word, by all means, type it in. But don’t spend time trying to find them until after you fill in the longest word. | |
| · Look for common letter combinations: CK, QU, EA, ED, and any double consonant often go together to build a word or two. | |
| · Don’t waste too much time staring at a jumble of letters. If you don’t see a combination quickly, press TWIST and look again! | |
