  Moxie’s Coffee Break

Sizzling Summer

The weather seems to be hot topic these days! (Pun intended!) With this heat wave throughout the country, people are seeking relief wherever they can get it. Me? When I'm not at work, I'm hunkered down in the coffee shop across the street from my un-air-conditioned apartment. There, it's always a frosty 65 and the iced mochas are plentiful. Having my laptop and wireless connection so I can play games for hours ain't bad either.

So despite the sun cooking our skin and our brains when we're outside, things have been bustling here at MSN Games. We've got some fun games in preview, an opportunity to give through gaming and…forums!  It's been so crazy around here I forgot to mention them in one of my Coffee Breaks! Forums are a whole new thing for us but we're very excited about a new feature for our gaming community!

Gaming Get Togethers

Forums have been around since the dawn of the internet. So yeah, we're a little slow at getting one of our own…but oh man do we have one now and it's a hot bed of game-gabbing activity! Our forums act as a sounding board for our community and they let us interact with our fellow game players in a whole new way! There's six different forums areas and a plethora of topics being discussed so get in there! Want to ask why you get errors when you try to play a game? Do it. Want to connect with your fellow backgammon players? Do it. Want to rant about why we took away certain games? Er…do it! Speak your mind, ask questions, get tips! That's what forums are all about. It's all driven by you guys. We'll be dropping in ever so often, but we know our gamers have a wealth of information to share with other members of the MSN Games community.

Now, I've been here at MSN Games long enough to master most games (well I have admitted to my past gaming foibles in this here column but forget about that if you could). One game I thought I was a total pro at was Luxor. The spiral stage does make my eyes go a little wonky but I'm ace at stopping those balls right before they enter the pyramid. Well I thought I was an ace until a forum member stated they acquired 14 MILLION points in just one game of Luxor. Gadzooks! I commend that amazing player and I'm now striving to acquire just a small fraction of that number! I encourage you to head to our forums to brag and post tips as much as you want – it might make me and your fellow gamers better players! (Thanks for all those Panda Craze tips guys! They totally got me out of a bind!)

Another big event going on now that definitely involves community (and Luxor!) is our Playing for a Cause campaign. I know I wrote about Playing for a Cause in my last column but this is definitely worth mentioning again! Last week, we headed out to two malls in Seattle to let everyone know about Playing for a Cause and to help raise money for the YWCA. It was a great big success! We were able to meet tons of MSN Gamers and they helped us earn a bundle for the YWCA. We have two more big events coming up, so come out and join us if you can! If you can't make it to San Fran or the Mall of America, try to snag the Luxor Photo Oops badge. Once you win it, we'll donate more to the YWCA. You'll get a badge, play for a cause, and maybe inch closer to those 14 million points!

Oh and just one last thing we did for our gaming community…we got rid of the video ads before games! Woohoo! Now you'll be taken to your game in mere moments. Those pesky ads won't get in between me and my mission to master Luxor!

Tech Time

As always, we wrap up this episode of Moxie with a common technical question. Today's is from a MSN Games player named Patricia:

"Dear Moxie, My issue is that the Macromedia Flash Player is not working with Panda Craze or Gold Fever. Hope you can fix the problem soon!!!"

We will fix the problem, Patricia! We are having a little issue now with three of our coolest games – Panda Craze, Shapo and Gold Fever. It seems that Macromedia Flash Player 9.0 is incompatible with these three games. However, we're on it! We have been working with the game developer to fix the issue and we hope you'll be digging for gold and helping Tik-Ling escape the zookeepers very soon!

For more information on this issue, check out this handy support article!

See you all next week! Stay cool!
