Moxie's Coffee Break

Best… quote… EVER

It looks like this will be an awesome year for movies! And I don’t use that word lightly. But as a fan of action-y, adventure-y films, I’m practically dancing with anticipation of what the summer will hold. A new ‘Batman’ film, a new ‘James Bond’ movie, ‘Hellboy II’, ‘Hancock’ (which I desperately hope won’t be awful), a new ‘Incredible Hulk’ movie (which probably will be), Pixar’s latest computer-animated wonder, and more.

But really, I’d trade away the entire upcoming season for the promise that just one movie will live up to my hopes and expectations, and it should come as no surprise that the movie is ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’. Just one more ride on the magnificent ‘Indy’ rollercoaster: that’s all I want, Mr. Spielberg. Just one more breathtaking trip, and I promise I’ll be happy. All I ask… please, please-please… is that you rely on your own instincts more than those of your colleague Mr. Lucas, and give us a movie that’s truly worth waiting twenty years to see. I know, it’s a tall order, but I have faith in you, sir. You made us believe that a stubby little alien could fly. Now it’s time for a bit more of that magic.

Anyway, as promised, it’s time for the Best Quote Ever. One of my colleagues has a seven-year-old son by the name of Brendan. And last week, he illustrated exactly why I adore kids (at least, other people’s kids): they say exactly what pops into their minds. Apparently little Brendan was at the movies, and he saw a preview trailer for the new ‘Indiana Jones’ film. (You’ve seen the one, I’m sure, but if not, it’s available on MSN Movies.) After it was over, he turned to his parents and asked, “Why did they decide to make him so old?

Heehee! Kids.

Indiana Jones and the Exclusive Windows Game Demo
Well, it wouldn’t make a very good movie title, but it beats some of the ones we came up with in college. You may be familiar with the dictionary drinking game? The one where you close your eyes, open the dictionary to a random page, point to a spot on the page, and have to use that word in some pre-defined context? (If you can’t make it sound convincing, that’s where the drinking comes in. And for our younger readers, I shall affirm here that we always played it with orange juice. Honest.) Anyway, two of our favorite variations on the game were “Bad Band Names” and “Indiana Jones and the…”.

What can I say? I was an English Lit major. That was our idea of fun.

And once again, this is entirely beside the point. But Indiana Jones is not. The same folks who made the endlessly amusing Lego Star Wars games are putting the finishing touches on their latest creation: Lego Indiana Jones. So the next time you have the urge to put Indy and his friends through all their paces from the first three movies, in Lego form – and if you haven’t felt this urge, that’s only because you haven’t thought about it yet – just snag the exclusive, free demo download from GamesForWindows.com. I’m staring at an “18% downloaded” bar at this very minute, and I’m hoping that the demo includes that bit with the giant rolling boulder!

Women’s Murder Club on MSN Games
As I’ve probably mentioned before, I don’t watch much television. This isn’t because I don’t like it, but because I love games so much that TV sort of falls by the wayside. Frankly, I’m not sure I even need to watch TV any more, since so many lunchroom and hallway conversations seem to revolve around what happened last week on any given popular series. This is definitely the case with ‘Women’s Murder Club’, since if you get more than a dozen women in any given building, at least two of them will eventually end up talking about something by James Patterson. It’s almost eerie. I’ve never seen a single episode, nor even read one of the books, but I know all about Lindsay, Cindy, and Claire.

And I guess I’m about to learn a whole lot more, since
MSN Games is hosting the exclusive launch of James Patterson’s first videogame: Women’s Murder Club: Death in Scarlet. It’s a hidden-picture game from the same folks who did Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile, so you know they’re quite familiar with both the seek-and-find genre and crime-solving mysteries. Oh! And if you’re a James Patterson fan, you’ll also want to check out our new interview with the man; he’s chatting about this game, his upcoming projects, and what he does for fun. (I’ll give away that last one, though: it’s “write books”.)

Playing Cards… With Real Cards!
Those of you who have played on
MSN Games for a long time will recognize the name Joe Andrews: he is quite possibly the biggest fan of social card games any of us have ever encountered. Remember those insightful columns we had for Spades, Hearts, and other card and board games? Yep, that’s all Joe. He’s also a fascinating guy in person, with tons of stories about games he’s played and people he’s met. So if you’d like to meet him too, and play a few rounds of your favorite card games that involve actual cards, check out the Grand Prix Series of Hearts, Euchre, Spades, and Pinochle. Or just drop Joe a line at heartsmoon@aol.com, and he’ll tell you all about it!

Tech Talk
Another week without any major issues: it makes this section look rather bare, but I can’t imagine anyone would complain! As always, if you’re having trouble playing one of your games, or seeing any strangeness within a game or while installing, we have a whole troubleshooting section to help you out.

See you next time!
