Bridge Objective
You and your partner bid against your opponents to establish the contract for the hand. Half of the game is learning to communicate your hand to your partner through your bidding patterns. Ideally you will win the contract and make it, but often your goal will be to manipulate the bid to cut your losses, or even score points, when your opponents get the contract.

The Basics

Bridge uses a standard deck of 52 cards -- four suits of 13 cards each.

From lowest to highest, the cards are ranked 2 through 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace, and the suits are ranked Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, and Spades. No-trump outranks any suit.

Playing Bridge
Bidding
Under the bid display, there is a set of buttons numbered 1 through 7 and, below that, another set displaying the suits. To bid, click a number and then a suit. If you want to bid no trump, click a number and the nt button. The bars will not allow you to make an illegal bid.

Alerting
Before making your bid, you can click the Alert button to have the bid highlighted. The Alert button allows you to inform your opponent that you are making a nonstandard bid.

Auto
The Auto button will automatically play your cards from high to low, following suit. You may want to use this option when it does not matter what you play, in order to save yourself some clicking for the rest of the hand.

Last Trick
If you want to know the last trick played, click Last Trick, and cards for the last trick will appear. You can also move your pointer over the cards that are face down on the table, to see the last trick played.
